Annual St. Anne’s Sunday in Lennox Island
Every year on the last Sunday of July, the Lennox Island Band Council hosts St. Anne’s Sunday, a special gathering that brings the community together for mass, a lobster feast, a parade, and other festivities. This long-standing tradition dates back to the 1600s when French missionaries introduced Catholicism to the Mi’kmaq people. Grand Chief Membertou saw connections between Christian symbols and Indigenous spiritual practices and was later baptized at Port-Royale (now Nova Scotia), leading to a blending of traditions that continues to this day.
St. Anne’s Sunday is expected to take place on July 27, 2025. More details will be shared as the date approaches—stay tuned!
