Join Mi’kmaw artist Annie Martin of RoseWolf for a guided introduction to pyrography, also known as wood-burning.

Annie will introduce participants to the tools, safety practices and foundational techniques used to create designs through the controlled application of heat. Through instruction, demonstrations and guided practice, participants will become familiar with the creative process before beginning their final project.

Annie will also share how she discovered pyrography as her artistic medium and how her work is influenced by nature, identity, movement, lived experience and her connection to Mi’kmaq culture.

Each participant will transform a 7-by-5-inch wooden keepsake box into a personalized piece using a selected wood-burned design. Design templates, professional wood-burning equipment, practice materials and all required project supplies will be provided.

The experience is thoughtfully paced to allow time for safety instruction, demonstrations, practice and creative exploration. Participants should plan to attend the full three-hour session so they have enough time to safely complete their project.

About Annie Martin

Annie Martin is a Mi’kmaw artist, a member of Millbrook First Nation and the founder of RoseWolf. Born and raised in Sikuek, Nova Scotia, Annie has made Epekwitk her home since 2009.

Annie discovered her connection to pyrography while searching for a creative outlet. Working directly with a wood-burning tool allowed her to express ideas that had previously felt difficult to capture through drawing, and she quickly recognized pyrography as her artistic medium.

Founded in 2014, RoseWolf has grown to include wearable art, accessories, and custom and commissioned work created on wood and leather. Each piece is individually burned by hand, making every design unique.

Annie’s work is rooted in her connections to land, identity and lived experience. Her designs often draw from nature, celestial imagery, movement and feeling while blending personal expression, contemporary design and cultural connection.

Through RoseWolf, Annie continues to share her work across Canada through markets, collaborations and retail partnerships.

Important Booking Information

Participants must attend the safety instruction provided at the beginning of the experience before using the wood-burning equipment. Late arrivals may not be able to participate if they miss the required safety orientation.

Participants should follow all instructions provided by Annie and use the tools and equipment only as directed.

Please plan to attend the full three-hour session. Space is limited, and advance booking is required. All required tools, equipment and project materials will be provided.
