Makayla Bernard is a 16-year-old Mi’kmaq young woman from Lennox Island, PEI. She has been teaching herself the art of working with porcupine quills and birchbark since she was nine years old. Makayla has received many recognitions for her work, including a Young Business Women award, and has been featured in numerous articles highlighting young women in business. She also facilitates workshops, teaching others the skills she has perfected over time.

Through imagination and creativity, Makayla has found success at art fairs featuring her work, which is now showcased in numerous locations across PEI and beyond. Some of her pieces are available through the Indigenous PEI Store and its online shop.
