Clare Engen
Clare Engen is a multidisciplinary artist who gathers natural materials and cultural inspiration to shape her creative practice. As she reconnects with her Cree language, Clare incorporates Cree names into her artwork, weaving language learning into her artistic process. Elements of her culture—such as teachings from the medicine wheel and the significance of feathers and smudging—often guide and influence her designs.
Clare loves to explore a wide range of art forms. Her journey began with experimenting with craft materials at home and continued through beading sessions at the Friendship Centre in the Northwest Territories, where she lived for most of her life. Her style has also been shaped by the knowledge and generosity of Indigenous friends and community members in the NWT.
In 2023, Clare moved to Prince Edward Island, where she continues to create, grow, and deepen her connection to her culture through art.
