Annie’s Earrings
Annie Gallant is a Mi’kmaq artist who learned how to do beadwork approximately 8 years ago. Her family moved to Ontario when she was 6 years old, and she was later placed in the foster system. She then moved back home around 10 years ago to better her lifestyle.
An elder taught her how to bead for her first time in 54 years. She finds beadwork very therapeutic, and she enjoys every minute of it. She strives to learn much more and hopefully teach the younger generation to keep the culture alive.
Her beautiful art can be enjoyed by many walks of life. Everyday she learns about her culture that she has lost for so many years, and she can only explain it as bittersweet.
