Julie Murphy is a Mi’kmaq woman from Lennox Island, and she was taught the art of basket weaving by her mother. What began as a family tradition has become a source of peace and creativity in her life. Each basket she weaves is a reflection of her culture, carrying with it both the teachings of the past and the joy she finds in designing new patterns. Basket making allows her to share a part of who she is, to keep tradition alive, and to create something both beautiful and meaningful for others to enjoy.
