Olivia Wakelin is a Mi’kmaq artisan from Natoaganeg First Nation, New Brunswick, now living and studying on Epekwitk. Her work draws on cultural teachings and blends traditional beading practices with modern styles.

Olivia’s creative journey began as a child, with her grandmother teaching her how to sew. Those early lessons with her grandmother taught her far more than just technique; they also instilled in her the importance of putting good intentions into every part of the project. During the pandemic, she began beading and found that the lessons of her grandmother quietly guided her hands.

Now, based on Epekwitk and studying Foods & Nutrition with a minor in Indigenous Studies, she brings her cultural teachings and creativity into both her academic work and her art.
