Cheryl Simon
Cheryl Simon is a Mi’kmaw artist from Epekwitk whose work focuses on traditional Mi’kmaw porcupine quill art and black ash basketry. Her practice honours traditional harvesting methods and the hand processing of natural materials such as porcupine quills, birchbark, spruce root, sweetgrass, and black ash.
Cheryl’s work reflects a deep connection to the land and to the cultural teachings that guide her creative process. She follows traditional Mi’kmaw teachings when designing and creating her quillwork, allowing these teachings to shape both the patterns and the meaning within each piece.
