Treaty Day Mawio’mi

On October 1, 2024, the Epekwitk Assembly of Councils hosted the second annual Treaty Day Mawio’mi at the Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown. The event brought communities together in a powerful celebration of Mi’kmaq culture and history.

Treaty Day commemorates the Peace and Friendship Treaties of 1725-1779, which recognize the ongoing relationship between the Mi’kmaq and the Crown. In honor of this history, hundreds of Indigenous singers, drummers, vendors, and artisans gathered with Islanders to mark the occasion.

We are excited to see what is in the works for the third annual gathering in 2025. Check back for updates as plans come together! In the meantime, check out the recap from last years gathering. https://lnuey.ca/education/the-inaugural-2023-treaty-day-mawiomi/
